Saw Title Sequence:
Saw is an american horror franchise distributed by Lionsgate and produced by Twisted Pictures that consists of a sequence of 7 films. As you begin to watch the opening sequence it is already obvious that it is going to be effective due to the background sound - the sound is able to draw people in as it increases when a picture comes on to the screen. However, it decreases when the screen is black - this is able to toil with people's expectations and emotions. As they are being drawn into the sequence they are able to shut the world out and focus on the sequence which then allows them to notice even the smallest of sounds which will make them jump more easily. The font of the writing it effective due to it being scratched and and slanted with the use of a font which looks like chalk - the use of chalk is powerful due to this is a common talk of a 'pen' when people are locked in a room. They decide to write on the walk with either a stone or chalk therefore this links to horror films as it is a clear indication that someone may be trapped - people are usually trapped or chained up in some way in the series of Saw films. At 0:46 a clock appears on the sequence, this indicates that time is ticking and that people or the victims have not got much 'life time' left and need to escape quickly, this is iconic with Saw films due to every person has always got some sort of time limit therefore this is a clear link between life or death in the sequences. At 0:55 there is a table full of missing people or articles where people have died - this links to the film as Saw is responsible for these missing or dead people. The realization that the people are dead adds a sinister feel to the film which allows the audience to believe it is real at the current time. Finally, the use of padlocks indicates the people as being tied up and not being able to leave whilst being locked within the buildings which means that Saw himself has complete control over them and is able to watch their every move. At the end of the opening title sequence throughout the different shots it keeps going back to the television. This is a link within all the films about how Saw contacts the victims, once they are awake and realise that they are in trouble Saw appears on the screen and tells them what they have to do in order to stay alive, this adds desperation to the victims for the audience to see.

Sinister opening title sequence:
Sinister is a 2012 American supernatural horror film directed by Scott Derrickson. The opening title sequence is effective due to it representing itself as a film screen where the front cap has been taken off so that we are able to see what they are videoing which leads us to see a family of four swaying from a branch with sand bags over their heads. At this point nothing is happening within the sequence however this is effective as it is leaving the audience waiting for something to happen therefore creates suspense an tension. The hand held movement on the camera is good as it makes us feel like we are filming the horror ourselves and witnessing it at that current time. The filter on the video is powerful as it makes us realise that this wasn't in modern time, it was filmed a while back which means there has been other previous slaughters within the time the video has been taken and we're watching it. The gradual movement of the branches suggests that someone is cutting it down whilst they are hanging from there but we cannot see who is doing it which allows us to question what is going on and makes us want to watch more so that we figure out what is going on, who is doing and why was he doing it. Before the branches began to move each family member was calm and not moving - almost like they had been sedated and therefore when the branch starts to move up they begin to wake up and realise what is happening to them causing them to twist and turn making it harder for them to escape the rope causing a painful death for all. This helps create the name 'Sinister' as sinister represents something evil and bad and that is what is happening to the family - a blood-curdling death caught on video. After they stop moving, the video skips to where they are still and swaying, this indicates that they are finally dead. Like Saw, Sinister finishes with chalk-like scratchy writing which is effective when labeling the name of the horror.

American Horror Story Hotel opening title sequence:
American horror story hotel is 5/6 of the seasons. It premiered on October 7th 2015 and concluded January 13, 2016. This opening title sequence is really good through the use of powerful music which has been used throughout all of the other seasons however each one has a twist to go with the theme of the season therefore it is easy for people to recognise a american horror story episode. As soon as you begin to watch the opening sequence you are able to indicate that it is horror based due a stone wall with a small square cut out which is only filled in with a few wooden planks which a hand is then reaching out from. It is not only the square cut out with is able to tell us that is is horror, it is also the colour of the hands and how they are performing - they are thin and discoloured. The second clip shows us a pool of blood and a girl sat in the blood wiping it with her hands then placing it all over her thighs which allows us to make assumptions that she may be mentally disabled and thinking that rubbing blood all over herself is normal. The blood indicates fear and slaughtering which represents to the audience that this episode could have certain aspects of a killing. Around the 0:33 - 0:55 mark the opening title sequence shows bible quotes, bible quotes are only used when within church so when they are used for something else it already indicates that is is being used for evil and contradicts the bible as being holy. It uses the quote 'Thou Shalt Not Kill' and within this sequence blood and already been shown therefore the quote is being used as a joke to create humour within a killing. To finish off the opening title sequence tracks down the corridor into an extreme close up to show the 'eye' of the door which links back to what the season is about - a hotel. The eye of the door allows audience to feel as though they are being let in to watch American Horror Story and therefore are concentrated on what is going on within each episode.

Insidious opening title sequence:
Insidious is a 2011 American supernatural horror film directed by James Wan. The opening title sequence is effective because it introduces us to the film by opening the screen up with 'eery' horror music which makes you feel as though someone is creeping up on you. After the directors name is shown the scene switches to the boy (who we presume is the victim) in his bed asleep. This gives the audience clear identification on who we need to focus on the most throughout the film. As the camera scans across the boys bedroom a shadow on the wall from the outside lights show a women posture - this suggest that she has something to do with the boy, as we begin to look at her shadow upon the wall the music starts to increase, the reason for this is this gives the audience a clear understanding that she must be someone who is bad and apart of the blood-curdling events which are about to take place within the film so as the music increases, so does the tension. As we leave her shadow her figure starts to become real and this is where we see her with a black veil over her face standing in the corning, black suggests death therefore we establish that she has something to do with killing someone. After we see her face the scene switches into big bold red letters which allows us to see how dramatic it is but also the music becomes a lot higher which makes the audience jump so that they remember the words that they have see on the screen as they has such a huge impact from it.
