Title choices:
To come up with our horror film title we researched names of films which were, like ours, based on social media. As our OTS is based on our victim being stalked online (and in person) we needed to do research on what titles have already been used for this particular genre.
One of the most popular horror films based through the internet is the 2015 film Unfriended. This film is based on a Skype conversation among six friends who cruelly cyberbullied a young girl in the past, and how the young girl joins their conversation to threaten them with a sadistic choice: confront the truth about what happened, or die.The title Unfriended is very effective as it straight away makes us think about social media and how u can 'accept', 'subscribe' and 'unfriend' people online. In our horror OTS we used both Facebook and Instagram as a pose to Skype because Skype is less popular among younger teens now.

Another horror film which uses the power of social media to capture the audiences attention is Chatroom. Chatroom is more dated compared to Unfriended as it's based around a old-school Chatroom with five lonely teenagers who meet in cyberspace and create identities they wish they had in real life. This causes one of the members in the Chatroom to target someone else with the intention of killing them.
After researching horror films surrounding the idea of social media we narrowed it down to two titles for our film; Unfollow and Unknown. Both these titles would be effective as they relate really well to social media and how you can block someone for your security but also how people can look through your personal life with a click of a button and find out exactly where you are. Also the name Unkown is effective as it highlights how you can receive a call or text from someone unknown and this person could become your killer...... |
Connotations:
Within a film you will be presented with a title that represents the atmosphere and mood of the whole film just by its appearance and font on screen. For example the actual words used can represent the whole genre and what the film will be based on. For instance 'Poltergeist' suggests a film surrounding a supernatural or ghostly being whereas 'Saw' suggests a very sinister film with violence and torture.
The fonts of titles also play an important part in attracting our target audience as a dark, sharp and shadowy font suggest the film is dark and eerie.
